Recruited students to double the size of the CU Men’s Chorus from 13 to 26 members in three weeks.

Developed curriculum for a two-week collegiate-level summer intensive for high school students. Topics included music theory, musicianship, ear training, vocal technique, as well as acting and movement for singers.
Prepared students for collegiate-level auditions through individual voice lessons and repertoire selection.
Hailing from sunny Southern California, Allison Zema is delighted to serve as the Director of Choirs at Lyons Middle Senior High School in Lyons, Colorado.
Allison received her Master of Arts Degree with concentrations in Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance from the University of Colorado, Boulder in May of 2018. At CU Boulder, she occupied positions with the CU Boulder Choral Department including Head Teaching Assistant, Director of the CU Summer Lab Choir, Assistant Conductor of the university’s premiere ensemble, University Singers, as well as Co-Director of the Flatiron Camerata, a five-voice madrigal ensemble which completed a residency program with the Aspen Music Festival and School in January 2016.
Allison’s personal accomplishments include national and international performance tours to Washington D.C., South Africa, the United Kingdom, Hungary, and Slovakia, where her women’s choir received first place in their category at the Bratislava International Youth Music Festival in 2014. During her undergraduate tenure at the University of California, Irvine, Allison received two Bachelor of Arts degrees, in Vocal Performance and Business Administration, respectively. One of her proudest achievements was the curriculum development and directorship of a two-week summer intensive for high school students at UC Irvine, known as the Summer Academy in Vocal Arts.
Based on her own profound experiences in music, Allison believes that singing in a choir can help her students develop empathy while finding their own identity in a supportive environment. She dedicates her rehearsals to all aspects of singing, including vocal technique, music theory, sight-singing, and historically-based performance practices. Finally, Allison strives to create a classroom culture in which all students gain self-confidence, take creative risks, and thrive as well-rounded human beings.
Allison has studied under the tutelage of Joseph Huszti, Dr. Gregory Gentry, Dr. Andrea Ramsey, Dr. Leila Heil, Chris Maunu, and Abigail Martinez. In addition to her musical passions, Allison enjoys swing dancing, photography, and her beautiful cat, Mr. Bingley.

Allison teaches voice lessons out of her home in Longmont, CO. She is classically trained in voice, and her unique approach combines her talents of dance and theater to cater to each individual student.
Lessons include vocal warm-up exercises, musicianship skills, sight-reading, and repertoire performance.
Allison is trained to prepare students for All State and Honor Choir auditions. It is recommended that lessons begin at least two months prior to the audition for maximum results.
